Experience the timeless vehicles of the past this Sunday during the 2024 Bay to Birdwood motor rally. You can expect to see everything from the antique Ford Model T to the 1960s Dodge Phoenix and the 1970s Holden HQ Monaro. An estimated 90,000 fans will line the streets to watch more than 1500 classic and retro vehicles travel from Barratt Reserve in West Beach all the way to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. Upon arrival at Birdwood, you can see the cars up close at the ticketed Bay to Birdwood Finish Festival, or travel back in time for the Fashions in the Field period fashion competition.
Jazz legend Herbie Hanock will be returning to Adelaide for one night only in October, performing the greatest hits from across his career, including Cantaloupe Island, Watermelon Man, Chameleon and Rockit. With 14 Grammys to his name and a career spanning seven decades, the genre-defying jazz pianist, composer and bandleader has played everything from bebop to post-bop, modal jazz, jazz fusion, jazz funk and electronic. On Sunday, October 20, he will take to the Festival Theatre stage for what could very well be his last time in Adelaide.
Grab your popcorn as the Adelaide Film Festival returns to cinemas across the city. This blockbuster festival is sure to please film buffs, with local and international film premieres, red carpet events, moving image exhibitions, talks, parties and more. This film festival will open at the art deco Piccadilly Cinema with the world premiere of The Correspondent, followed by an after-party at Hindley Street Music Hall. Other highlights include the world premiere of Songs Inside by Shalom Almond, a preview of We Bury the Dead by Zak Hilditch and the Australian premiere of Blitz by Steve McQueen. The festival runs from October 23 to November 3.
International jazz sensation Jazzmeia Horn is back this October, bringing her powerful voice to audiences throughout Adelaide. Jazzmeia Horn’s trip to Adelaide will include a series of concerts, masterclasses and a collaborative project with the Aboriginal hip-hop group DEM MOB. This includes a performance at the UKARIA Cultural Centre in Mount Barker on Sunday, October 27, where she will be performing material from her highly anticipated fourth studio album Messages. There will also be a light lunch available to order in advance. Jazzmeia Horn is an award-winning vocalist, producer, activist, writer and educator from the United States.
Paracombe Wines in the picturesque Adelaide Hills is opening its cellar door this October for an exclusive tasting experience. Normally open by appointment only, this unique offering allows visitors to sample a selection of wines paired with artisan cheese boards, with two unique options to choose from. The Classic Tasting option, priced at just $20 per person, gives a selection of the vineyard’s signature wines, while the Premium Tasting experience features rare and limited-edition wines for $40 per person. While at Paracombe Wines, guests will have the chance to buy an Artisan Cheese Board, which includes a variety of international cheeses, house-made pesto and freshly baked focaccias for $20 per person. From 11am on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, Jimmy Melrose Park in Glenelg will be transformed into a seafood hotspot by South Australia’s top chefs and producers in a unique weekend of oyster shucking, prawn peeling, salmon searing, sashimi slicing and much more using fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce. Festival ambassador, Adelaide restaurateur and MasterChef royalty Laura Sharrad has curated this year’s event, bringing both newcomers and veterans such as Africola Canteen, Oliveti and Fair Seafood to the event.
