Word search

In Victorian England, a young girl, Esme, watches as her father sorts through words for the first Oxford English Dictionary. But she soon notices something … all the discarded words relate to women. So, Esme decides to create a dictionary of her own, a dictionary of lost words. Adapted by Verity Laughton from the critically acclaimed novel by Adelaide author Pip Williams, The Dictionary of Lost Words  will return to Adelaide this April after a sell-out national tour in 2024. Throughout the play, Esme, played here by Shannen Alyce Quan, encounters everyone from actresses to suffragettes, market traders and workers, whom she empowers with her alternative dictionary. The Dictionary of Lost Words will be performed at Dunstan Playhouse on various dates until April 17.
