For more than 140 years, Wilderness School has been shaping the future by fostering confident, curious and compassionate young women. This month, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, the School reflects on its enduring commitment to empower students to lead with purpose and integrity.
From their first days in ELC, Wilderness students are encouraged to see themselves as capable and courageous learners. As Head of Junior School Liz McCarthy explains, Wilderness offers an environment where girls’ voices are valued and aspirations are nurtured. This is intentional in everything from the School’s approach to learning to the intentional design of its spaces.
When girls are heard, supported and challenged, they develop the confidence to navigate unknown futures, using critical thinking and collaboration skills they have honed throughout their learning journey.
The outcomes achieved at Wilderness School as a result of this holistic approach to learning speak for themselves.
In 2024, 14% of Wilderness students ranked in the top 1% academic results nationally, with 64% in the top 10% and an incredible 91 Merit awards achieved.
“Outstanding results enable Wilderness students so many opportunities in the next stages of their lives as they move beyond school and into purposeful futures,” says Principal Belinda Arnfield.
“At Wilderness, our mission is to enable every girl to be the best she can be throughout her life. Our success is not limited to one course area — it is widespread.”
Wilderness School has always been a place where girls learn not just for the future, but for life. Through a strong sense of community, girls gain a deep understanding of themselves and their capacity to make a meaningful impact. Their success – today and in the years ahead – reflects the power of education, connection and the boundless potential that flourishes when girls are given the opportunity to thrive.
