The SALIFE Awards ceremony began with a Welcome to Country from Harley Hall, a senior Ngarrindjeri and Kokatha man.
Network 10’s Tiffany Warne and Josh Webster did a sterling job as the hosts of the evening’s formalities, bringing some light-hearted banter to their professional duties.
The celebrations continued after the awards presentation as more than 300 guests award winners and nominees, members of the public, and SALIFE and Solstice Media staff enjoyed a cocktail party in the beautiful art deco surrounds of The Piccadilly’s main foyer. (See the Out & About photo gallery.)
Guests included the Minister for Trade & Investment Joe Szakacs, journalist and presenter Annabel Crabb and journalist and radio host Rebecca Morse.
Minister Szakacs gave his “huge congratulations” to all of the winners.
“I am delighted to see some extremely talented and hard-working people receive the recognition they truly deserve,” he said.
“We have a lot to celebrate as a state. Backed by our business community and local leaders, we’ve grown our state’s reputation as the home of world-class produce, the best events in the country, and a place where new ideas are born.
“Brand SA, as the custodian of the South Australian State Brand, is proud to support this important celebration of South Australian excellence.”
Singer songwriter Rob Edwards had the room captivated with his powerful storytelling, including of his Indigenous roots and culture, and his soulful and jazzy sounds.
Guests were treated to canapés, including casarecce alla vodka, wagyu mini sliders and salmon blini, while enjoying Bird in Hand wines, Vale Ale beers and 23rd Street Distillery spirits. Catering and event management was provided by event partner Out in the Paddock.
SALIFE editor Liz Walsh said the awards were a “celebration of the extraordinarily talented and inspirational people” who call South Australia home.
“I’m always impressed by the depth of talent and the quality of products and ideas emanating from our state,” Walsh said.
“This year, we saw another fabulous group of award winners being acknowledged and I was really excited for that group to include Katherine Bennell-Pegg, who is our first Australian woman astronaut and will be the first astronaut to go to space under the Australian flag.
“It’s a nice reflection of our state’s future industries and our leadership on so many levels.”
