This week Barcelona-based music festival and conference Primavera Pro dropped its 2025 lineup, with a three-day concert series that will feature sets from Beach House, Kim Deal, Peter Doherty, Kneecap and Horsegirl.

It also included 24-year-old Adelaide singer-songwriter Aleksiah, who is now set to make her European festival debut on June 6 after scooping three gongs at the South Australian Music Awards last November including Best New Artist.

The artist otherwise known as Alexia Damokas will join an international contingent of musicians hailing from countries including Argentina, South Korea, Ireland, and Indonesia who will perform a series of public showcases at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and other venues around the city.

These free concerts coincide with the long-running Primavera Sound festival, which this year is headlined by a triple threat of newly crowned Grammy winners in Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX.

Aleksiah is the latest local act to make the trip from Adelaide to Barcelona, with hip hop trio DEM MOB hitting the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona stage in 2023. A barnstorming set by the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands-based trio reportedly had the Spanish crowd raising their fists in solidarity with the urgent social messaging of the group’s tracks.

The Adelaide City of Music office, which this year celebrates 10 years of Adelaide’s status as a UNESCO City of Music, has built a strong relationship with Primavera Pro and supports artists to seize international opportunities.

“I’m so incredibly excited to be performing at the Primavera Pro festival in June,” Aleksiah told InReview. “It’s my first ever show overseas and it feels so surreal to be performing amongst so many acts that I love. I know that it’s gonna be such a fun experience and I hope the Spanish crowd loves some Aussie music, big thank you to Adelaide City of Music Offices for supporting this opportunity to take my music to new international audiences!”

Aleksiah recently featured in the summer edition of CityMag, where she shed light on the themes behind her debut EP Who Are You When You’re Not Performing?

“I love how it’s super cathartic and expressive, but also at the same time it can be fun, it can be silly, it can be deep, it can be sad, it can be whatever you want it to be,” she said.
