This luxurious lifestyle property in Woodside has been designed to bring the outside in and includes a swimming pool, an adjoining flower farm, equestrian facilities and spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills.
Edwina Harrison and her partner Matthew Penny say they are often asked why they are selling their home so shortly after moving in.
In the process of creating their Woodside oasis – built in 2024 – Edwina and Matthew caught the building bug, and have decided to pursue another project.
“My partner and I do love a project, and though this was never meant to be a project, it now looks so spectacular that maybe we’re ready for another one,” says Edwina.
“We both feel incredibly proud to have created this property and I think it’s a very rare opportunity for someone to acquire a property of this calibre and level of luxury … the features we have are unmatched in the Adelaide Hills.”
The couple had previously been looking for an established home, but when they drove up the driveway of 353 Nairne Road, Woodside, they just couldn’t say no.
“We looked at a lot of properties, but nothing was as spectacular as this,” says Edwina.
“As far as land in the Adelaide Hills, it doesn’t get any more pristine. You’ve got the most spectacular views, but at the same time, it’s also quite sheltered from the east and the west.
“The established driveway is nearly half-a-kilometre long.”
The house sits on eight hectares of land and includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms and space for up to five cars.
Colloquially known as Goldfield’s Farm, the property also includes seven stables, a 60-by-20-metre arena, 10 irrigated paddocks and four day yards.
Edwina also runs Goldfields Flower Farm on the property, where she grows a sought-after variety of dahlias.
“That can come with the farm if the purchaser wants to carry on with it,” says Edwina.
“So the farm has an income, and it’s just beautiful when the whole paddock of dahlias is in flower.”
Edwina and Matthew enlisted Trent Burns of Nielsen Architects AU to design their home, with Klemm Homes, who were recently named South Australia’s Residential Builder of the Year, completing the build.
“I worked with [Trent] extensively for a full year on this design,” says Edwina.
“He’s an incredibly clever architect and we felt, with this land, we had to do it justice by creating a luxury lifestyle and putting something significant on this property, and I think we’ve done that well.”
Edwina says a priority was to bring the beauty of the outside in.
“That’s why we’ve put in a glass walkway which joins the two wings of the house and that from every room, you feel like you’ve got the gardens in with you,” she says.
“It is a very tranquil Adelaide Hills retreat – the second you walk in, you feel like you’re in a hotel.”
Separate living spaces were another must-have.
“The children are all in one side of the house along with the cinema and you hardly hear from them,” says Edwina.
“It functions as a high-level family home without fault.”
Wanting interiors that would hold up for decades to come, the couple opted for traditional features to complement the home’s modern design.
The property was landscaped with traditional elements, including stone walling around the lawn, while inside, both fireplaces are also surrounded by stone.
Edwina says it is hard to pinpoint her favourite feature, but one standout is the stone benchtop, imported from southern France.
“That was hard to find … but we got incredibly lucky towards the end of the build. I had to purchase it from photos, so that was a big risk, but it’s spectacular – I just love it.”
Edwina says she will miss: “pretty much everything”.
“It’s so beautiful – I do question why we’re selling … the resort lifestyle turned out better than we could have ever envisaged,” she says.
“It has so many features that remind you of a five-star hotel. The outdoor entertaining area is something that can be used all-year round and it brings our family together.
“We have many friends that come up and enjoy the place so much, they don’t want to leave.”
The sale of 353 Nairne Road, Woodside is being handled by Josh Biggs and Arabella Hooper of Harris Real Estate.
