A former acting director in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will join the judiciary from May.
Lisa Dunlop SC will begin as a District Court judge on May 5, Attorney-General Kyam Maher announced today.
Dunlop fills a vacancy left by the upcoming resignation of Judge Joanne Tracey from the court.
Maher said that Dunlop has more than 20 years of experience with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which she joined in 2004 as a solicitor
She was later promoted to prosecutor and then executive managing prosecutor, while she also served a period as acting director.
In August 2024, Dunlop was also appointed as a senior counsel by South Australia’s chief justice, Chris Kourakis.
Among the most notable cases Dunlop has worked on in her career include being junior counsel in the prosecution of Domenic Perre, who in 2022 was found guilty of the National Crime Authority bombing in Adelaide.
She has also been a prosecutor for other complex murders, as well as for sexual abuse, drug and assault cases.
Maher said Dunlop is a “widely respected prosecutor with an exceptional legal mind”.
“Over the course of her career, she has been involved in numerous complex, challenging cases and has always acquitted herself with the utmost professionalism and skill,” he said.
“I look forward to the contribution she will make to the judiciary.
“I would like to thank Judge Joanne Tracey for her contribution to our legal profession as both magistrate and judge of the District Court and wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life.”
