With nominations now open for the Eastside Business Awards 2025, we check in with one of last year’s winners to see what moves they’ve been making.

In April 2021, physiotherapist Matt Heavyside launched MOTUM within Physio Smart, his growing physiotherapy practice on Payneham Road.

Created by Matt, MOTUM is a unique program of ground-based mobility training designed to build strength, flexibility and stability fast, while also improving joint health.

The concept proved popular, with Physio Smart taking home the Best Customer Service Award and the Best Professional Service Award in last year’s Eastside Business Awards, a recognition voted for by the public.

What makes MOTUM different is how it transforms proven physiotherapy exercises into engaging group sessions. While based on clinical expertise, the classes emphasise fun and accessibility – a combination that’s clearly resonating with clients across the City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters.

A member of Matt’s team confirms the award has validated their approach.

“Winning this award has reinforced our passion for delivering exceptional customer service,” they say.

“It has inspired us to keep striving for more, ensuring we go above and beyond to meet and exceed our clients’ needs every day.”

The MOTUM offering also includes online memberships, allowing clients to follow guided movement videos anywhere and anytime. These digital sessions let users build tailored short programs of exercise ‘snacks’, focusing on specific areas of the body according to their needs.

The online platform includes clear demonstrations of regressions and progressions, with detailed explanations of what participants should be feeling during each movement – bringing the expertise of in-person sessions into the convenience of home workouts.

Now, just a year after their award win, Matt and his team are preparing to launch a second studio space in Highgate next month, a project they’ve been developing behind the scenes for the past year.

The expansion reflects both business success and commitment to their community.

When asked about the advantages of first launching MOTUM in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, a team member explains that they’re “incredibly excited about the opportunities here”.

“The area offers a diverse range of clients, fantastic accessibility and a vibrant community filled with sporting clubs and businesses that align with our philosophy.

“It’s the perfect place for MOTUM to thrive, and we’re so grateful to be part of it!”

The Eastside Business Awards, now in their eighth year, have provided more than just recognition for Physio Smart. The program has created valuable connections within the local business community.

“These [award] programs bring our community together in the best way – celebrating success, fostering connections and recognising businesses that truly care about their clients,” shares a team member.

“Being part of this event allowed us to connect with like-minded businesses and reinforce our commitment to excellence. We’re honoured to be involved!”

As an initiative of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, the awards recognise exceptional businesses that create exceptional and memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

The public is invited to nominate and vote for their favourite businesses in the 2025 Eastside Business Awards.

This year’s program aims to uncover even more shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, services and other outstanding businesses within the council area.

Whether you’re a resident, employee, shopper, trader or visitor, the awards committee encourages you to keep an eye out for local businesses that deserve recognition and celebration.

Simply for voting in the 2025 Eastside Business Awards, you’ll be entered in a draw to win a $350 voucher to a business of your choice within the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.

Voting closes Sunday, 16 March. For more information on the awards and to nominate a favourite business, visit the website.
