Craters Crumpets founder and owner Wes Weeks crafts small-batch preservative-free crumpets which are striking a chord with customers at the Adelaide Central Market.

Wes Weeks is the founder and owner of Craters Crumpets. Located in the Adelaide Hills, Craters specialises in crafting small-batch, preservative-free crumpets using organic flour.

Previously, Wes worked in kitchens in Canada and sold smoked salmon for Harris Smokehouse.

“Work for me has always been involved with food and I love the industry,” Wes, 25, says.

“Growing up we’d eat crumpets like they were going out of fashion, and I wanted to offer a local product with my own twist.”

Describe the best day of your life.

The day Port Adelaide’s Angus Monfries bounced the ball at a right angle to help secure victory against the Crows was memorable, but even more significant was the day I proposed to my fiancée Steph. We were secluded in an Airbnb amidst Kangaroo Island’s heartland, surrounded by grass trees and an ample supply of Champagne — a time of pure happiness.

Describe the best meal you’ve ever eaten.

It’s impossible for me to pick just one, but all of my favourite meals come from my grandma Ingrid. Some of my fondest childhood memories growing up were visiting her and learning to cook. Whether it’s chicken and green olive lasagna, apple and rhubarb crumble or Kentucky Fried Rabbit, they’re all exceptional.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

One of the most valuable pieces of advice I’ve received recently is from my old man: “Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems”. It has been particularly reassuring as I navigate the challenges of being a new business owner, where setbacks often feel more pronounced than successes.

One of my favourite pictures and memories is hiking up Volcan de Acatenango in Guatemala with some of my best mates. We camped up there and witnessed another nearby volcano erupting throughout the night. It was amazing!

What are the best qualities of your favourite person?

My life and business partner, Steph, embodies some of the finest qualities I admire. Her sense of humour, although quite twisted, brightens any room, her loyalty is unwavering, and her ambition drives us both forward in our personal and professional endeavours. She truly enriches my life with these qualities every day.

Best ever purchase?

A one-way ticket to Canada in 2018 – it set me on the path that I’m on now, and set the foundation for life after high school. Throughout the year abroad I met my partner, formed lifelong friendships around the world and grew immensely as a person through the experiences I had.

What are the top five songs on your playlist?

Fisher – Losing it

Morgan Wallen – You Proof

Wellsy – Solace At Green Lake
