The SALIFE office has been abuzz since we made the decision earlier this year to transform our October issue into the annual “Design Issue”; excited to showcase the breadth and depth of design talent the state has to offer. And we have dedicated our pages to honouring, highlighting, recognising and detailing the important work carried out by the full spectrum of designers.
It is hugely fitting that for SALIFE’s inaugural Design Issue, we travel back to Kangaroo Island with SA architect Max Pritchard, to give readers a special tour of one of his most important and career-defining designs: the breathtaking Southern Ocean Lodge resort.
Step inside a modernist home in Torrens Park that was originally the home of renowned SA architect Keith Neighbour, and meet the current custodians who are honouring the mid-century ethos in which the home is steeped.
From industrial design to interiors, graphic design to sets, through to costume, fashion, jewellery, object, landscape, lighting and more – we uncover some of SA’s well-known, as well as emerging designers. In a special section, called simply, The Designers, each designer reveals the inspirations and influences behind their work.
Fashion editor Emma Riemersma has uncovered established and emerging SA fashion designers to spectacularly showcase their wares.
October’s stunning recipes page are as much a work of art as they keepers of tasty afternoon tea treats, as Natalie Homan designs a five-dish menu that offers the perfect balance of sweet and savoury, texture and flavour.
SALIFE sits down for a very stylish dinner party with the team behind Out In the Paddock, one of SA’s premier events planners as they talk through how they’ve developed into the state’s trend-setters.
