Describe the best day of your life.
Opening the doors to my brick-and-mortar boutique, VAN BRUSSEL, on Ebenezer Place in Adelaide was a moment that felt almost surreal. It was the culmination of a lifetime of vision, inspiration, and passion, all poured into one space. Seeing my debut collection hanging neatly on the industrial-style rails, surrounded by a carefully curated selection of my favourite aesthetic things, was like a physical manifestation of my creative mind. It wasn’t just a store; it was an extension of my artistic identity, finally brought to life. Another unforgettable experience was attending the Nice Jazz Festival in 2023 and 2024. Balmy summer air, an Aperol spritz in hand, the picturesque coastline as the backdrop, and some of my favourite artists playing live. Dressed in the perfect outfit, dancing with my best friend, and feeling completely lost in the music – it was the definition of pure, unfiltered joy.
What brings you joy in life?
Music, deep conversations, and quality time with the people I love. And, of course, fashion – but not just the finished product. I love the experimental process, the thrill of developing new concepts and pushing creative boundaries. Fashion, to me, is more than just clothing; it’s a form of self-expression, storytelling, and art in motion.
What is the best photograph you have?
I’m by no means a professional photographer, but I love capturing moments through my lens. One of my favourite photos is a shot I took at a hidden beach in Nice – a place my aunt grew up exploring but one that tourists rarely find. Standing there with her, in a place so deeply woven into her memories, felt incredibly special. The photo captures the sun-drenched coastline, the carefree energy of summer, and the simple beauty of a moment shared with loved ones.
What is the hardest lesson you’ve had to learn?
That life rarely goes as planned. You can map things out meticulously, but there will always be unexpected twists and turns. Learning to adapt, embrace uncertainty, and trust the process has been one of the hardest, but most valuable lessons.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Be present. It’s so easy to get caught up in what’s next, but sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the ones happening right now.
Describe the best meal you’ve ever eaten.
A meal at Bistro Paul Bert in Paris – French cuisine at its absolute finest. The most perfectly cooked steak frites, the fluffiest gougères, the sweetest, most delicate leeks, the creamiest mussels, and a crème caramel that balanced sweetness and salt so effortlessly, it tasted like magic. Paired with a gorgeous glass of French red wine, it was pure indulgence. The setting was just as unforgettable – a classic Parisian bistro, filled with locals exuding effortless nonchalance, the French language floating through the air, and the quiet hum of the city as I people-watched from my seat. It was simple, chic, and absolutely perfect.
What are the best qualities of your favourite person?
Optimism, patience, kindness, and consistency. There’s something so grounding about a person who is steady, supportive, and kind – someone who shows up, no matter what.
Best five songs on your playlist?
I’m such a music nerd, and my playlists are constantly evolving, but these are my longest standing favourites:
Jordan Rakei – Cover of Best Part (Daniel Caesar)
Jacob Collier – Feel
Rai Thistlethwayte – San Francisco Street
Sarah Vaughan – Baubles, Bangles and Beads
Cleo Sol – Why Don’t You
My life philosophy is…
Dream big, aim high, and never let rejection stop you. Every setback is just a setup for an even greater comeback.
