The newly opened Goodwood by Eldercare is a high-tech, luxury aged care residence built on the Royal Commission-recommended ‘small household’ model of aged care.
To meet the growing demand of over 500,000 older Australians seeking 24-hour support every year, Eldercare has set the new standard in aged care through the opening of Goodwood by Eldercare – a $40 million high-tech, luxury site in the leafy suburbs of Adelaide, which is already achieving national recognition.
Eldercare Goodwood showcases high-end finishes and first-class services, including a full-time concierge, baby grand piano in the foyer, gym, beauty salon, glass conservatory overlooking manicured gardens, and curated artworks.
The 100-bed aged care residence, purpose-built by Eldercare using South Australian suppliers, contractors and materials for its building and design, is the first residential aged care home in Australia to achieve a 6-Star Green Star Design Review rating.
Each residential wing has its own living and dining areas, providing a welcoming home-like environment
Eldercare Goodwood’s quality fit-out is paired with quality care, with high-tech features and leading aged care building design offering residents the best care and wellbeing outcomes possible.
As part of the organisation’s model of care, staff will take the time to understand the needs and preferences of each resident, and to monitor how and why things change, allowing for optimal wellbeing and quality experiences suited to each person.
The model has been designed with consideration of the varying interests, levels of ability and life stages of residents, allowing Eldercare’s teams to provide a level of comprehensive care that surpasses the industry standard.
All rooms are fitted with voice-assist technology, smart TVs with family-connect capabilities, 4D-radar technology for fall detection and alert notifications, and inbuilt ceiling-mounted electronic track and hoist systems for the comfort and safety of residents and staff.

Adopting the small-household model of aged care, as recommended by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, Eldercare Goodwood has four wings of 25 residential suites, clustered into six to seven suites for more personalised care.
Each residential wing is its own neighborhood and includes a large servery and central living and dining areas, with reading nooks and light-filled activity spaces for social connection. The wings have been named after prominent South Australian women Julia Gillard, Dame Roma Mitchell, Lucy Compson Daw, Augusta Zadow, and Dr Nancy Atkinson OBE.

Residents at Eldercare Goodwood will enjoy a premium meal service, which can be tailored to meet clinical care needs, with on-site chefs working closely with Eldercare’s in-house dietitians to ensure the meals are both tasty and nutritious. Local and South Australian food and produce is used wherever possible, and quality South Australian wines are offered with main meals. Freshly baked items are offered every day, with seasonal fruit available at all times.
The state-of-the-art facility aims to meet the growing demand for modern, high-quality residential aged care from an increasing tide of ageing Baby Boomers, who are more discerning with their expectations than previous generations.

At Eldercare Goodwood, back-of-house services, such as food preparation, laundry, waste management, goods deliveries and maintenance, are located in the basement. Staff service lifts keep domestic duties out of sight for residents.
Environmental features include stormwater collection and reuse, solar panels and design elements such as quality insulation, double-glazed windows and natural ventilation.
The site was officially opened by Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler last Friday, 14 February.
“Eldercare Goodwood is adding 100 modern and well-designed aged care places to the sector and has invested in a fit-for-purpose site and innovative technology that enables staff to provide more personalised and direct support to older Australians, ensuring they receive the best care possible,” said Butler.
“Eldercare Goodwood is a leading example of how the sector can meet the evolving needs of our ageing population, and I congratulate all involved in making this exceptional site a reality.”
Setting a new standard for residential aged care
Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering called Eldercare Goodwood “the new standard in aged care”.
“We are creating the benchmark for innovative, sustainable design and a model of care to support the care and wellbeing needs of a rapidly ageing cohort who expect to age well, remain connected to the community and are environmentally aware,” Pickering said.
“This magnificent home was designed around our model of care, which is based on developing relationships with warmth, generosity and care that is consistent and tailored to the individual.
“Our small-household model of aged care and state-of-the-art building design means our staff can work safely and comfortably, maximising direct time spent caring for our residents.”
Eldercare Goodwood is now open to residents with the first resident moving in today.
