Is your space in need of a spruce-up? CityMag has teamed up with Carpet Court to steer you in the right direction.
Not too many of us have the time or money to renovate our homes — who wants to sleep in their living room while their bedroom gets an update, anyway?
Luckily, giving your space a refresh is simpler than you might think, and you can do it without knocking down walls or spending a small fortune.
Teaming up with the experts from Carpet Court, we’ve pulled together a few easy home updates to help you navigate the world of interior décor.
With a few simple updates to your flooring and with some strategic lighting, you’ll have that new home feeling without doing too much at all. Read on for our tips.
1. Lay a rug
Want to hide old floorboards or add some texture underfoot? Try laying a rug.
Available in all shapes and sizes, rugs are a great choice if you’re looking for a versatile option to suit a range of styles and room sizes.
Rectangular rugs are great in longer spaces, however, if you’re looking to add size to a smaller room we recommend throwing in a circular rug.
Best of all, if you’re a renter you can make this update easily (read: without leaving a trace for your landlord).
2. Hang curtains
We love natural light, in fact, we endorse it! But this doesn’t mean you should skimp on curtains.
And these screens do a little more than just hang there, they can create the illusion of high ceilings, frame front-yard views or keep out light at night.
Opt for neutral floor-length drapery for a simple statement or a large-scale patterned set to cash in on the contrast of your decor.
3. Set up a lamp
Floor, desk, bulbs, lanterns: when it comes to lamps, the possibilities are anything but dim.
If you’re aiming to liven up an empty corner of nothingness or create an ambience in a larger room, go for a floor lamp.
On the other hand, desk and table lamps are great if you require a concentrated light that you can transport from room to room.
4. Install carpet
If you’re after something that looks as good as it feels, nothing beats a soft carpet.
Installing carpets in the living area and bedrooms will connect spaces for a visual flow and add warmth.
If you want your floors to make an impression, trade in the traditional plush variation for a textured carpet.
Textured loops are great in high-traffic households, bouncing back from muddy track marks easier than other types of carpet.
It’s easier than you might think to tackle the installation yourself (or Carpet Court can get someone on the job for you).
5. Refresh your art
If walls could talk, would yours be asking for a revamp?
Whether you’ve outgrown the coastal print you’ve had since uni or have a blank space begging for some TLC, an easy fix is to hang some new art.
Simple paintings, statement pieces and hanging textiles can all deliver a focal point and give a room a personal feel – they’re also one of the most affordable updates.
—Don’t know where to start? Luckily, Adelaide has a slew of talented artists who will have something to help you jzuzh up your walls.
