Your views on dumping the US, LIV Golf and the park lands, child protection, and more.
Saul Eslake has written an essay that everyone in Australia needs to read. I am a proud Australian, who was once a dual citizen. The US is no longer a country I recognise, and I have formally renounced my citizenship. I do not want to be affiliated with a country that knowingly voted an ignorant, lying, wannabe dictator into the Oval Office. Going forward, Australia must ensure that Trumpism does not infect our people. It will need to be strong and nimble and find like-minded allies to help shield itself from the unstable times we are entering. – Kelly Liu
An important and insightful piece – Diana O’Neil
This article highlights the stark reality, of what happens when voluntary voting, ensures that a totally unfit man, can be installed in the White House with less than 50 per cent of the vote. It also shows the effect of the inability of mainstream media, to call this man out over nearly 10 years. Sadly, it is also a cautionary tale over how money corrupts, and the enormous amounts that can be spent both in a campaign sense, but also as a threat by those who control the money, to silence what was once a Republican Party into a subservient gaggle, too afraid to speak out lest they be primaried. Critical thinking in the population is no match for a good salesman it seems! This fragile democracy model is one we certainly don’t want imported here in Australia. – Lyn Petrie
Great piece from Saul Eslake. I hope our governments and oppositions take heed. – Lyn Leader-Elliott
The problem is so large that one cannot deal with it with paid workers. Henry Kempe has shown that the use of volunteer mothers to “mother the mother” is successful and I have shown that it worked in South Australia (Journal of Pediatrics). It perplexes me that we persist in modifying an unworkable model when there is an approach that works. – David Lines
LIV is a bad idea, smothered in human rights abuse, more destruction of Adelaide’s park lands and restricting public access. The Adelaide Golf Course does not need Greg Norman’s involvement. Who is going to pay for this? I’d prefer to invest in public housing. All this to hit a ball in a hole. – Patrick O’Sullivan
Yes, we don’t need and want anyone sponsoring events in South Australia if they are connected to crime. It looks like Saudi Arabia is going to host Putin, a wanted war criminal and Trump, a convicted felon. – Beat Odermatt
The best thing the Premier could do is turn this embarrassing failure into a positive.
In consultation with the Indigenous Nations of South Australia (which I believe didn’t happen with Tarrkarri) revive, expand and celebrate the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute. Tandanya has been sitting in the doldrums for too long. It occupies a heritage building which should be recognised and acclaimed.
The “Indigenous art treasures and artifacts currently locked away in storage” certainly deserve to be displayed but it must be done in a way that is respectful of origins and cultural reference, and this is best done by members of the Indigenous culture for whom it is part of their ancestry and art. And Tandanya is best suited for this because it is run by the people who know and understand what they are doing. – Barbara Fergusson
