The speed limit on Unley Road will be 50km/h starting tomorrow.
The speed limit cut will apply to a 1.5km stretch of Unley Road between Greenhill Road and the Park Street/Wattle Street intersection.
The remaining 1km stretch down to Cross Road will stay at 60km/h.
The changes come into effect as of tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport approved Unley Council’s move to lower the speed limit in May last year to improve pedestrian safety and encourage more outdoor dining on Unley Road.
“By reducing the speed limit, we are creating a safer environment for all who use Unley Road, whether they are walking, cycling or driving,” Unley Mayor Michael Hewitson said.
Unley Council has also proposed reducing the speed limit on King William Road, Leader Street and other roads from 50km/h to 40km/h but this has not yet been approved.
