ABC Radio Adelaide host David Bevan today revealed his successor after announcing his retirement from radio yesterday.

The ABC’s South Australian state political reporter Rory McClaren will take over the Mornings slot in January 2025.

Bevan’s last show will be on December 13, having hosted the program for 24 years.

McClaren said he was “thrilled to have been trusted to take over the Mornings program”.

“It’s equal parts exciting and daunting to follow his lead,” he said.

“David has made an immense contribution to the state’s media industry over decades. He’s been a standard setter.

“I’ll seek to build on his work, and of those who have gone before him, when I start in the Mornings chair.”

McClaren joined the ABC in 2021 but has covered politics full-time at state and federal levels since 2015.

He’s a regular guest on the Friday morning “Spin Cycle” program which prods at the political news of the week, and is also President of the South Australia Press Club.

ABC Radio Adelaide manager Graeme Bennett said he was “delighted to have Rory as part of the ABC Radio Adelaide team”.

“Rory’s great strengths in political and news coverage across broadcast and online mediums are complemented by his passion for the community he serves,” Bennett said.

“He is an incredible, fresh talent who has already laid the foundations of connection with our audience and he is a natural fit for our long-established role in holding those in power accountable and reflecting the life of our city.”
