Puppy and owner rescued from Moonta mine shaft

A puppy which fell into an old mine shaft and its owner who became trapped trying to rescue it have been pulled to safety on the Yorke Peninsula.

Police and emergency services were called to the Hughes Engine House on Shepherdson Road near Moonta just before 4pm Sunday.

The dog had fallen into the shaft and the owner attempted to rescue it but also became trapped between five and eight metres down.

Police STAR Group officers retrieved the pair just before 8pm, with the man taken to hospital as a precaution
