The operating partner of a 150-room hotel in the Barossa Valley has been announced.
IHG Hotels and Resorts will operate the InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa proposed for the Barossa Valley near Lyndoch.
The 150-room luxury resort is expected to cost $100 million and is forecast to open in 2028 once planning approvals are received.
The development by the Strategic Alliance consortium will have views of the wine region, premium restaurant and function facilities, a wellness spa, pool and a gym.
Strategic Alliance said the development would create more than 350 jobs during construction and 120 ongoing jobs upon completion. Once operational, it is expected to deliver $70 to $100 million in economic benefits to the Barossa region.
“It is great to see the InterContinental brand being associated with this proposed development, which means that if approved, it immediately becomes part of a global network with an enormous customer base,” Premier Peter Malinauskas said.
Tourism Mininster Zoe Bettison said it was an “exciting proposed development for the Barossa”.
“The Barossa is a key drawcard for South Australia, with over 768,000 visitor nights in the last year – with 35 per cent of those coming from interstate and 10 per cent coming from overseas,” she said.
“What is clear is that the Barossa needs more luxury accommodation to attract interstate and overseas guests who are seeking high-end, authentic Barossa experiences.”
A development application for the Lyndoch resort was lodged mid 2024, and will sit on Hoffnungsthal Road – halfway between Williamstown and Lyndoch and near the Lyndoch Lavendar Farm, Barossa Helicopters and Barossa Rodeo.
IHG Hotels & Resorts Australiasia & Pacific managing director Matthew Tripolone said the company was “so pleased to be embarking on a partnership with the Strategic Alliance team to being one of the world’s most recognised brands to the Barossa”.
“We have been looking to expand our presence in South Australia, and we know there’s strong demand for an international luxury hotel in the Barossa region,” Tripolone said.
Strategic Alliance director David Cook said he was “very pleased to be partnering with the iconic InterContinental brand and thank them for their shared vision in our Barossa project”.
“We look forward to our continued positive engagement with IHG and the Barossa, as our team works closely with them in unlocking this opportunity and bringing this project to fruition,” he said.

The InterContinental hotel is the latest luxury accommodation offering proposed for the Barossa Valley, joining Seppeltsfield’s $80 million Oscar Hotel which received planning approval in 2022.
That project was given a $3.5 million loan by the South Australian government’s Economic Recovery Fund in 2024.
Once complete, the Oscar Hotel will feature 71 rooms, a fine dining restaurant, a lounge area, a rooftop pool and a terrace bar.
