As part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Martina Beka, an artist in residence at Fab Workshop and Studios, will present her debut solo exhibition, what if i forget, in Adelaide Arcade’s underground tearoom until March 23.
Martina says the work “explores themes of memory, forgetting, and the act of preserving or holding onto what could be forgotten”.
“Nothing is ever truly forgotten—especially through the work featured in this exhibition where there is a dance between new and old memories,” she says.
She chose the former tearoom as her exhibition space because she felt “the energy it held, and the forgotten nature of the space perfectly aligned” with her work.
The free exhibition will display material representing forgotten memory and connection to space, as a culmination of installations, sculptures and photographic works.
Adelaide Arcade general manager Andrew Jonats says “the tearoom is a brilliant exhibition space for something as intimate as a discussion about memory”.
“Martina’s work will resonate with everyone who sees it, as we can all relate to the decisions of what we keep, and what we discard,” he says.
Please note that this is an intimate underground venue with low ceilings, only accessible through a staircase.
The closing night event on March 21 invites attendees to engage with the work and space in small groups. For bookings at other times, contact the artist via email at [email protected]. Find out more via the Adelaide Fringe website.
