The Context Writers Festival returns for its fifth year from April 12–13. The two-day festival includes conversations with high-profile and emerging writers, exploring storytelling across a range of mediums including poetry, screenwriting, and music.

This year’s festival features a sister city poet exchange with Word Christchurch literary festival. Māori poet, musician and teacher Isla Huia, from Adelaide’s sister city of Ōtautahi (Christchurch) will participate in the exchange. Other guests include the co-founders of South Australian publishing house Pink Shorts Press, Margot Lloyd and Emily Hart.

Guest curator Justina Ashman says the program “highlights the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of being a creative writer today”.

“Our panels bring together emerging and established writers of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, theatre and film, sparking a dialogue that crosses the divide between traditionally separated writing practices,” she says.

The festival is free to attend, but bookings are essential. It will be held at the Adelaide City Library, Rundle Place, and the Minor Works Building Community Centre on Stamford Court.
