If you’re concerned by the number of plastic milk bottles in your recycling bin every fortnight, then you should know that a couple of cafés in Warradale now offer fresh Fleurieu Milk on tap.

Bobbys Coffee Store and Banks & Brown are pouring fresh, full cream Fleurieu Milk into refillable one-litre glass bottles.

The milk taps installed are part of the City of Marion’s sustainability initiative to empower coffee shops and cafés to become more energy-efficient, enhance waste management practices and embrace the principles of circular economy.

We love a good origin story, like that of local milk company Fleurieu Milk – and equally, we love a good environmental initiative – so, the addition of a Fleurieu Milk Tap to both cafés is worth a cheer.

While it makes it easier for locals to grab fresh milk, the cafés are also reducing their own plastic use by tapping the 18-litre milk kegs for their coffees.

Bobbys regularly churns through (yep, a dairy pun) up to 130 litres of full cream milk each week, which works out to more than 3000 two-litre plastic bottles every year; while at Banks & Brown around 4700 two-litre bottles were being sent for recycling.

But not any more…

They join a growing list of places with a Fleurieu Milk Tap, and works are in the pipeline to add another two cafés in the City of Marion to the program.

If you want to reduce your reliance on plastic, purchase a branded, refillable glass bottle at your local and get your Fleurieu Milk on tap.
